We’re off to IWMW, the wonderful world of IWMW

Hurray! It’s that time of year where we get to go out and about, visit a new university and catch up with webby friends old and new.

Yes, its time for IWMW 2015 – the Institutional Web Managers Workshop.

A CampusM beacon and a cup of tea.

A CampusM beacon and a cup of tea!

This year we are heading to sunny Ormskirk to Edge Hill University and the theme is ‘Beyond Digital: Transforming the Institution’.  This is a topic very close to a lot of Web Managers’, and teams’, hearts as we work, either iteratively or ‘big bang’ to make our digital footprint relevant, transformative and able to adapt and respond to the changing needs of all of our audiences and stakeholders.

I have attended many (most!) of the previous IWMW events.  My first one was Bath back in the year 2000 when I had just started at the University’s first Web Officer.  Seems like a lifetime ago, and my, how things have changed!  We have moved on from Web Strategies (thank goodness) and are now focussing on Digital Strategies and how to develop and embed these across our institutions.

The University of Bradford Web Team are out in full force this year.  I have been part of the organising committee, which has mainly meant dodging requests from Brian Kelly – UK Web Focus to do a song at the closing session, and I am running a session on (i)Beacons for Recruitment Events with Ben Butchart from Edina.  Then the Web Team are running a full afternoon session with Mandy Phillips and the team from Liverpool John Moores University.  This is going to be an engaging and ‘information sharing’ session where we explore themes including:

  • Web Versus Digital: the changing shape of online activities in HEIs
  • Governance and Ownership
  • Content Creation and Curation
  • Adoption of Standards
  • Personalisation
  • Working with External Agencies
  • Managing Expectations (of Senior Colleagues!)

Its always a great event and much credit goes to Brian for continuing the event even after the sad closure of UKOLN.  The conference has over 100 people attending and this is testament of the need of this sort of event for the continual development of web and digital experts across the sector, to ensure that HE institutions have an online presence that is accessible and relevant to the needs of its audiences as they are today and in the future.

I can’t wait!

Come and see us – say hello!  We’re a friendly bunch and we like nothing more than a good chat about the work that we are doing and the ideas that we have.

See you at #IWMW15!
